Case Study: The Pipeline, Washington State Automotive Dealers Association

Some campaigns are about reach. This one was about precision.

Earlier this year, Hurley Media Group partnered with the Washington State Automotive Dealers Association ahead of the state legislative session in Olympia. The goal wasn't mass awareness. It was to put the right message in front of the right 147 people at exactly the right moment.

The Challenge

WSADA faced a legislative session with real stakes. Harmful legislation targeting local dealerships was on the table, and the association needed lawmakers to understand something important before they voted: Washington's local auto dealers aren't just car sellers. They're one of the state's most significant engines of technical workforce development.

The message had to land before session started and stay present throughout.

The Creative: Two Spots, One Story

We developed two spots under a single campaign theme called The Pipeline.

The first was a narrative piece. It followed a young man from his first day in an automotive technical program through the arc of a full career, the training, the certifications, the paycheck, the life. It wasn't a commercial. It was a story about what a job can do for a family over a lifetime.

Spot 1: The Narrative

The second spot took a different approach. Real interviews. Real technicians and professionals from across Washington state, talking in their own words about what this career path gave them. No scripts. No actors. Just people who built something for themselves through the skilled trades.

Spot 2: The Interviews

Together the two spots gave lawmakers both the emotional narrative and the ground-level credibility to understand what's actually at stake in their districts.

The Media Execution: Surgical by Design

This is where the campaign got fun.

Rather than running a broad statewide buy, we targeted specifically the lawmakers in Olympia, focusing high-frequency impressions on that universe of decision makers in the weeks leading up to and throughout the legislative session. Connected TV allowed us to reach them at home, in their offices, and wherever they were consuming content during one of the most demanding stretches of their year.

The frequency was intentional. We weren't trying to introduce the idea once and hope it stuck. We wanted WSADA's message to be the thing lawmakers kept seeing while they were actively deliberating.

The Results

WSADA successfully held off harmful legislation during the session.

More telling than the outcome itself was how it happened. We heard more than one anecdote of state representatives referencing the job creation that local dealers provide in conversations when they met with constituents. That's not a coincidence. That's what happens when the right message reaches the right people enough times at the right moment.

Why This Matters

Advertising gets credited most often for selling products. This campaign is a reminder of what the medium can do at its best: shape understanding, inform decisions, and give an important industry a voice in a room that matters.

The tools that make this possible, connected TV, precise audience targeting, high-frequency delivery windows, aren't just for consumer brands. For associations, advocacy groups, and any organization trying to influence a specific audience, this is exactly what modern media can do.

If you have a message that needs to reach a specific room, we know how to put it there.
